The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) has introduced new mobile parking fee payment service.

The emirate’s Mobile Fees Payment service enables motorists to pay for parking with the help of mobile phones by sending an SMS.

Mobile Fees Payment allows motorists to pay the parking fees by sending an SMS via their Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company (Etisalat) and Du mobile phone numbers.

The SMS must contain details such as vehicle registration number, the parking area type and the number of parking hours required.

Once the message is sent, motorists will get a message comprising parking e-ticket number, along with the expiry date and time, and the relevant parking fees will be debited directly from the user’s mobile telephone number.

The new service, introduced by one of the DoT divisions – Mawaqif, is a part of the department’s efforts to offer the registered vehicles with convenient parking access by saving time and effort.

Registered vehicles in Abu Dhabi can use the service without prior registration, while vehicles registered in other emirates are required to create an ‘m-Mawaqif’ account.

"The SMS must contain details such as vehicle registration number, the parking area type and the number of parking hours required."

Introduced in October 2009, Mawaqif is a division of DoT that manages and regulates parking services in the congested parts of the emirate.

Mawaqif is the result of a strategic partnership and coordination between DoT, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi Police HQ and the Urban Planning Council.

m-Mawaqif service combined with the Mawaqif Account service allows motorists to pay for their m-mawaqif permit using their registered Etisalat or Du mobile number.
