UK-based car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that all its car models made from 2020 will be electric or hybrid.

The company intends to stop production of vehicles that are powered by the internal combustion engines. Earlier this year, a similar announcement was made by Swedish vehicle manufacturer Volvo.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth said: "Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice.

"We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year."

The decision was announced by the company at its inaugural Tech Fest event.

JLR also plans to build a new electric car plant in the UK.

The governments of UK and France have already announced they are planning to stop the sales of new diesel and petrol cars by 2040.

Recently, the Scottish Government announced its plans to phase out cars that run on internal combustion engines by 2032.

Meanwhile, the German luxury car maker BMW has expressed its intent to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in the UK by adding 25 new vehicles by 2025.
