The reconstruction work of the Hume Highway connecting Sydney and Melbourne in Australia is nearing completion, with two of three remaining sections now finished.

Work on the Woomargama bypass just north of the New South Wales-Victoria border is now complete, which the Tarcutta Bypass will also be next week.

Work on the final section is underway and expected to be completed by mid-2013. The new Holbrook Bypass has been funded by A$220m ($227.5m) from the Australian Government and A$27m ($27.9m) from the government of New South Wales.

The bypass will complete 800km of dual carriageway, which will allow for a doubling of truck movements over the next 20 years.
