Australia-based Lend Lease Engineering has been awarded the third and final contract to complete the $590m Cooroy to Curra Section A upgrade on Bruce Highway in Queensland.

The Australian and Queensland Governments will each provide $295m of the total investment to fund the project, which forms the second phase of the overall flood immunity works to Bruce Highway on the south side of Rockhampton.

Queensland Transport Minister Scott Emerson said the two governments were working to bring the Bruce Highway up to a satisfactory standard.

"We are getting on with the job of delivering vital infrastructure projects that will benefit all Australians and, in this case, give Queensland the modern motorway it desperately needs."

The new Cooroy Southern Interchange to Cudgerie Drive contract will involve the duplication of the 6km Cooroy bypass and will provide two additional lanes in each direction, which will double the current capacity of the motorway.

The project also includes construction of new bridges over Six Mile Creek, as well as upgrading the existing Cooroy southern interchange. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.

Deputy prime minister and infrastructure and regional development minister Warren Truss said Lend Lease Engineering is already gearing up for the works between the Cooroy southern interchange and Cudgerie Drive.

"We are getting on with the job of delivering vital infrastructure projects that will benefit all Australians and, in this case, give Queensland the modern motorway it desperately needs," Truss said.

In November 2013, Queensland Government has awarded a contract to John Holland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leighton Holdings, to deliver the Bruce Highway (Benaraby to Rockhampton) Yeppen South Project.
