Booz Allen Hamilton, a US-based technology company, has secured a $202m contract from the US Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Programme Office (JPO).

The five year contract has been awarded to the company by the federal government in order to improve transportation system in the urban areas.

The government anticipates that with the development of intelligent transportation systems, such as greater automation in cars and increased connectivity among vehicles would ease burden that transportation currently places on individuals and communities alike.

"Intelligent systems hold the potential to alleviate a wide range of issues associated with transportation, from traffic accidents and fatalities, to congestion and environmental pollution."

Under the Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, Booz Allen Hamilton will be assisting ITS JPO staff in executing research, development and deployment activities, as well as help ITS JPO comply with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Booz Allen has been extending its support to the Transportation Department in making transportation systems smarter, safer and more efficient. It has offered both technical capabilities and functional support including strategic planning and chronicling the history of ITS.
