Canadian firm International Road Dynamics (IRD) has secured a quantity purchase agreement (QPA) from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) in the US.

As part of the $3.8m deal, IRD will be responsible to provide all necessary electronic equipment, software and services required to build, reconstruct, test, calibrate and maintain the weigh-in-motion (WIM) and virtual weigh-in-motion systems (VWS).

The systems equipped with IRD’s hardware and software will offer high-accuracy traffic and weight data to the state for planning, roadway design and weight-compliance purposes.

"Our technologies and service capabilities reinforce the value that we bring to the maintenance and operation of their transportation network."

The contract, which is a task-order based agreement, runs from 1 July through 30 April 2019 and there is no limit to the number of quantity purchase awards (QPAs) to be released.

With this new award, IRD now has four active QPA’s with the state of Indiana.

The company said that each site will comprise a WIM sensor array specified by INDOT as appropriate for the type of traffic data to be collected at that location.

The VWS offers image capture and support remote web-access capability, which provides a more powerful real-time tool that can be used for commercial vehicle weight screening.

IRD president and CEO Terry Bergan said: "We will be working closely with the state as a partner to ensure the success of their WIM traffic data and VMS programme.

"Our technologies and service capabilities reinforce the value that we bring to the maintenance and operation of their transportation network. We look forward to providing many more years of mutual success."

In addition, the deal will provide an opportunity for IRD to work closely with the state to provide system improvements and upgrades through the life of this contract.
