The Western Australia Police (WAPOL) has awarded a A$28m ($21.36m)-worth contract for traffic monitoring systems named TraffiStar series camera systems to Jenoptik Traffic Solutions, a German company.

The contractor wil be responsible for supplying, installing, maintaining and operating the systems for a period of seven years. Jenoptik will will supply 81 systems initially, while the volume is expected to increase eventually taking the total contract value to up to A$60m ($45.7m).

WAPOL aims to improve traffic safety by installing these systems, which will help enforce speed limits and monitor red-lights, at existing and new measuring stations.

ERTICO ITS Europe has approved four new organisations to join its partnership, which is comprised of more than 100 public and private entities that aim to bring intelligence into the mobility segment across Europe.

The four new approved partners include AKKA Technologies, a mobility consulting and engineering group, Inmarsat, which is a satellite network operator, Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology (LIST), which is a research and technology company in intelligence transport systems (ITS), and Satellite Applications Catapult, a company that promotes ITS in the satellite sector.

Highways England (HE), one of England’s road operators, has awarded a contract to the UK Met Office for weather forecasting information services to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow during winters.

The three-year contract is valued at approximately £1m ($1.3m).
