The District Department of Transportation (DDoT) has selected CH2M as design-build consultant for replacement of H Street Bridge at Union Station, Washington DC, US.

Hopscotch Bridge was originally constructed in 1977 and spans 24 rail tracks. It comprises a three-block-long stretch of roadway over the Union Station Rail Yard.

The replacement works will allow $5bn of private and public investment. The works will also include extension of the DC Streetcar, development of Burnham Place and expansion of Union Station.

As part of this agreement, CH2M will provide preliminary engineering, design-build RFP development and financial and transactional advice.

The company will also be involved in developing strategic policy, risk management, economic analysis and lifecycle modelling aspects.

"Our team thrives on meeting the technical and schedule demands that will make this project a success and bring significant benefits to the DC region."

CH2M District of Columbia account manager Kathleen Linehan said: "The H Street Bridge project is an exceptionally complex and exciting project that provides significant economic benefits to the District of Columbia and travellers in and out of DC.

"Our team thrives on meeting the technical and schedule demands that will make this project a success and bring significant benefits to the DC region."

The authorities anticipate that the execution of these collective projects will transform Union Station into a major transportation hub.

CH2M also provided preliminary engineering and design-build RFP document development for the South Capitol Street Bridge Replacement as part of the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative.
