UK construction firm Galliford Try has been selected as a contractor to both Lots 1 and 2 of the Midlands Highway Alliance framework.

Established in 2007, the Midlands Highway Alliance is the regional maintenance procurement partnership between the UK’s Highways Agency and 20 local authorities in the Midlands.

The framework currently has a combined value of up to £261m to the appointed contractors, over the initial term of three years.

"We already have a strong track record in both highways and construction, particularly in the Midlands."

Speaking about the new contract, Galliford Try chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: "We already have a strong track record in both highways and construction, particularly in the Midlands where we are currently progressing the £52 million A45/A46 Tollbar End Improvement project."

As per the terms of the deal, the Midlands Highway Alliance also retains an option to extend the framework in March 2017.

Lot 1 of the framework includes projects with a capital value of up to £5m and is expected to become £70m over the framework lifecycle, while Lot 2 extends to all projects between £5m and £25m with a total pipeline of approximately £191m.

Under the framework programme, Galliford Try will deliver the whole lifecycle of road projects on behalf of the relevant authorities, especially road reconfigurations, resurfacing, waterproofing, enabling works, as well as the design and delivery of new bridges and carriageways.

Galliford Try expects to be allocated works with a total value of £81m under both framework lots, with projects under Lot 2 to be completed in joint venture with construction materials group Aggregate Industries.
