International Road Dynamics (IRD) has secured a contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for the installation, calibration and maintenance of weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems across the state.

This $4.6m contract is initially meant for two years and has an option for renewal for up to three additional years.

IRD president and CEO Terry Bergan said: “We are very pleased to be extending our long-term relationship with PennDOT.

"Our proven WIM technologies, and the data collected by these state-of-the-art solutions, are helping extend the life of highway and roadway infrastructure."

“Our proven WIM technologies, and the data collected by these state-of-the-art solutions, are helping extend the life of highway and roadway infrastructure, enhance driver safety, and improve environmental performance.

“These long-term service and maintenance contracts also contribute to the stability of our cash flows and our increased presence in key markets around the world.”

Currently, PennDOT has 38 active IRD WIM systems that are covered under this contract.

Nine of these systems also come with overview camera systems.

Data collection and planning site locations have in-road instrumentation and IRD iSINC WIM electronics and software.

Historical data collected from these sites can help in developing daily and seasonal factors, in addition to identifying changes in traffic patterns.

Real time data will help boost safety and assist the state police with enforcement activities, thereby leading to reduced roadway damage and increased preservation of pavements and infrastructure.

IRD is a highway traffic management technology company offering products and systems to the global intelligent transportation systems (ITS) industry.
