Intuicom, a US-based supplier of wireless solutions to the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) market, has secured a wireless traffic communications contract for a traffic signal expansion initiative in the city of Austin, Texas.

Made in conjunction with Intuicom’s authorised distributor, Twincrest Technologies, the contract covers the wireless traffic interconnect for the city.

Intuicom’s BroadBand Solutions (BBS) radios were chosen for their extended range and secure, high-capacity throughput.

The Austin Transportation Department (ATD) also selected Intuicom’s EB-6 PLUS high-speed wireless transceivers providing ethernet connectivity where line of sight is a problem.

This combination ensures that the ATD has secure high-speed data communications linking all the city’s intersections.

The scalable wireless solution integrates the city’s IP-based traffic signal controllers whilst offering centralised monitoring and management of the entire traffic network from city’s traffic management centre.

EB-6 PLUS is capable of operating as the access point, end-point, or repeater in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations.

The ATD will use the EB-6 PLUS to provide a wireless communication link between the city’s school zone flashers and the nearest intersection.
