The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has awarded a new contract to Canada’s International Road Dynamics (IRD) to provide various services for a statewide network of weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems.

The contract includes equipment and software maintenance, as well as an on-call service for WIM systems at approximately 250 locations across the state.

IRD’s new contract extends from 20 June through 19 June 2017 and is valued at C$5.1m ($4.76m).

"IRD continues to renew our key multi-year contracts and sign significant new agreements within our service and maintenance markets around the world."

Maintenance of both Caltrans’ commercial vehicle enforcement and traffic data collection systems is also included in the contract.

Commercial vehicle enforcement systems help screen trucks based on weights, dimensions, safety and credentials.

Traffic data collection systems offer 24-hour information at key locations in California’s highway network.

The data gathered from each location comprises axle and gross vehicle weights, axle spacing, vehicle classification and speed information, which is essential information for Caltrans’ pavement, highway monitoring and capacity studies, accident rate calculations and the analysis of truck transport practices.

IRD president and CEO Terry Bergan said: "IRD continues to renew our key multi-year contracts and sign significant new agreements within our service and maintenance markets around the world.

"This increases the recurring revenue aspects of our business and provides a solid and profitable base to support our ongoing research and development programmes, as we continue to evolve and provide new and innovative products and solutions to our customers."
