Traffic information solutions provider Iteris has introduced ClearPath Weather, a new road maintenance decision support system (MDSS).

The company’s cloud-based software solution offers winter maintenance strategies for better personnel, equipment, and chemical purchases, along with providing actionable pavement information for an effective government agency maintenance response.

ClearPath Weather is based on Iteris’ proprietary algorithms and highway condition analysis and prediction system (HiCAPS) pavement weather model, and takes advantage of the company’s ClearPath Weather application programming interface (APIs).

"We expect to enter the precision agriculture market shortly, with our ClearPath Agriculture solution. We believe that our partners in precision agriculture will be able to improve their applications with our unique content enhancing their customer’s experience".

Iteris president and CEO Abbas Mohaddes said that the company has invested significant resources building its ClearPath next-generation technology platform over the past year.

"ClearPath Weather is the first product series we are introducing to the market as we have strong customer relationships, talented subject matter experts, and many years of experience," Mohaddes said.

ClearPath Weather offers an easy-to-use interface with latest visualisation tools and mapping that enables state and local agency maintenance managers to access real-time information such as looping radar, satellite imagery, weather forecasts, plow location, as well as route-specific weather and pavement conditions.

During the last winter season, several Iteris customers participated in the early access release of ClearPath Weather.

Speaking about the tool, Indiana Department of Transportation Seymour District deputy commissioner Tony McClellan said Iteris’ ClearPath Weather helped effectively manage the roads through one of the toughest winters on record.

"We also saw other benefits of the MDSS system such as cost savings in areas of our winter operations and improved communications between garage units," McClellan said.

Iteris will showcase ClearPath Weather at American Public Works Association’s North American Snow Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio from 4-7 May.
