Intelligent transportation systems provider Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a contract by North Tarrant Express (NTE) Mobility Partners Segments 3 LLC as part of the NTE extension project in Texas, US.

Under the $26m contract Kapsch will deliver toll collection, intelligent transportation as well as network communication systems along the 10 mile-long NTE extension.

The company will deliver ten all-electronic toll zones, dynamic sign equipment and road sensors that enable dynamic toll charges depending on actual traffic volumes.

"The NTE extension project allows Kapsch to expand our managed lanes tolling solution."

First of the two segments of the contract is scheduled to be operational by April 2016.

The NTE extension runs along I-35W north of the city of Fort Worth, Texas, and will integrated with the Transdyn DYNAC traffic management system and the Kapsch Maintenance Online Management System (MOMS).

The integration enables NTE to monitor the total managed lane system in order to ensure easy movement of traffic.

Kapsch TrafficCom North America president and CEO Chris Murray said: "The NTE extension project allows Kapsch to expand our managed lanes tolling solution to additional segments in the Dallas Fort Worth region and provide an even safer, more reliable commute for more than 144,000 daily commuters.

"This award also enables Kapsch to reaffirm its commitment to the North Tarrant Expressway, where our company will complete the first two segments of the managed lanes system before the summer."

Kapsch is also responsible for designing, building, and integrating the toll system for the first two segments of the North Tarrant Managed Lanes Systems Integration projects in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

The $2.5bn NTE is five-year project that involves rebuilding 13.5 miles of the I-820 and SH 121/183 Airport Freeway corridor.
