The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) in the US has announced that construction works on Interstate 94 from Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis to Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center will begin from 20 March.

The transportation department also revealed that work under the bridges will also begin on the same date.

The $46.3m maintenance and preservation works on I-94 will include, resurfacing of nearly nine miles of pavement on I-94 between Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis and Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center.

"Reconstruction works will be carried out on westbound I-94 bridge deck over highway 252 in Brooklyn Center."

The project works also include repairing on 50 bridges on or over I-94 and repairing tile in (I-94) Lowry and Portland Avenue tunnels.

The works also include replacement of guardrails, as well as entrance and exit ramps.

Improvements to the drainage and concrete barrier in areas are also included in the project.

The department has planned to implement lane restrictions on the eastbound I-94 from west of Shingle Creek Parkway to Highway 252.

During the construction period, the interstate will be reduced to two lanes, and other ramps and lane closures are expected to start by the end of the month.

MNDOT further added that the traffic capacity will be reduced for much of the spring, summer and fall season.

The construction works are slated to be completed by next year depending on the weather conditions.
