Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has selected AgileAssets Safety Analyst software to strengthen the efficiency, accuracy and robustness of their traffic safety analysis capabilities.

AgileAssets is a US-based provider of integrated infrastructure asset management software solutions for public agencies. The company’s Safety Analyst software is a comprehensive, browser-based, GIS/LRS-integrated safety management system.

The software enables safety managers and professionals to significantly improve the effectiveness of road safety programmes, to reduce fatalities, liabilities and property damage.

The Safety Analyst features advanced analysis, decision and reporting tools, and offers agencies a functionally robust solution for delivering effective safety programmes.

"With Safety Analyst, MDT has additional tools to perform robust and actionable safety analyses that enable them to work towards their safety target goals."

These programmes are optimised against budget and performance constraints, including those established by MAP-21.

AgileAssets vice-president Joe Garvey said that MAP-21’s highway safety improvement programme (HSIP) requires strategic, data-driven approaches to improving highway safety that focus on performance.

"With Safety Analyst, MDT has additional tools to perform robust and actionable safety analyses that enable them to work towards their safety target goals and plan update requirements outlined by MAP-21," Garvey said.

The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) is a funding and authorisation bill to govern spending on US federal surface transportation.

While the $105bn, two-year bill does not significantly alter total funding from the previous authorisation, it does include many significant reforms.

The key provisions of the bill are that the funding programmes have been consolidated by two-thirds, the environmental review process is reformed to speed up project development, and there will be a reform of tolling on federal highways.

In addition, funding for bicycle and pedestrian transportation has been reduced and consolidated into a broader programme. A national freight will also be developed.
