The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) in Canada has unveiled a plan to widen Highway 417 in the west end of Ottawa at an investment of $86m.

Under the project the highway, also known as Queensway, will be widened from four to eight lanes from Eagleson Road to Palladium Drive, along with the addition of a new high-occupancy vehicle lane in each direction.

The project also includes the expansion of the highway from four to six lanes from Palladium Drive to Highway 7, as well as renovation of bridges on Carp Road, Eagleson Road and Huntmar Drive.

Improvements will also be made to the COMPASS freeway management system and new lighting will be added.

The project is expected start this month and be complete by 2014.
