Peru Transport and Communications Ministry (MTC) is planning to invest $20bn between 2011 and 2016 in transport infrastructure, with $11bn earmarked for road projects.

The $11bn investment in road infrastructure includes laying 7,270km of roads, which will be carried out on a public-private partnership basis, according to bnamericas.com.

Peru is planning to prioritise investment to pave 7,270km of roads over the five years with plans to pave 85% of the national highway network, while presently 53% of national roads have been paved.

The total investment of $20bn also includes two rail projects and one for airport.
