The Philippines Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has revealed that the first segment of the 7.4km Sariaya Bypass Road Project will be completed within next few months.

The project has been designed to divert the traffic along the busy Manila South Road in the province of Quezon in the Philippines.

DPWH Region 4-A has reported that nearly 86% of project works has been completed on Section one, which includes road opening, concreting, and slope protection.

DPWH Region 4-A director Samson Hebra said: “With the current pace of implementation, we can possibly finish in the next few months the segment from Junction Manila South Road Daang Maharlika to Morong Bridge, costing PHP181m ($3.6m).”

"With the current pace of implementation, we can possibly finish in the next few months the segment from Junction Manila South Road Daang Maharlika to Morong Bridge."

Officials from DPWH Region 4-A and Quezon Second District Engineering Offices are coordinating with stakeholders, local government units and land owners in order to resolve right-of-way issues at Section two from Morong Bridge to Gibanga Bridge.

Highway authorities also noted that the section three between Gibanga Bridge and Junction Quezon Eco Tourism Road is in progress and nearly 32% of the works has been completed.

Upon completion, the Sariaya Bypass Road is expected to reduce road traffic congestions in the region by providing an alternate route to the commuters travelling from Sariaya to Lucena City, as well as from coastal barangays, which is located near Quezon Ecotourism Road.

Authorities anticipate that the project will also enhance business opportunities in the region and improve socio-economic conditions of Sariaya residents in future.
