Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra), a unit of Reliance Group, through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) JR Toll Road, has completed a Rs5.55bn ($93m) road project in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

The four-laning project of the 52km Jaipur Reengus (JR) road has been implemented on a design, build, operate, finance and transfer (DBFOT) model with the support of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

RInfra was awarded the contract, which is a part of NHDP Phase III, for a concession period of 18 years.

JR road is a part of National Highway 11 (NH-11) running through two districts of Rajasthan – Jaipur and Sikar, and links major tourist destinations such as Khatu Shyamji and Salasar Balaji, industrial zones and Jaipur International Airport.

RInfra Roads CEO Sudhir Hoshing CEO (Roads) at Reliance Infrastructure said that the new corridor will provide congestion-free, safe and comfortable travel to commuters with travel time decreased by half and a 40% fuel saving.

"RInfra was awarded the contract, which is a part of NHDP Phase III, for a concession period of 18 years."

"The corridor will not only connect centres of tourism, industrial zones and religious places, but also reduce the rural-urban gap by connecting more than 50 villages with the state capital and other major cities," Hoshing said.

"The corridor will witness traffic density of approximately 22,600 vehicles per day, which is expected to double in the next four years. For the safety and security of commuters, the corridor will have 24X7 patrolling cars, ambulance services and medical centre," he added.

The completed corridor has eight underpasses, nine major junctions and 17 minor junctions to improve access from the north of the state to the capital.

The stretch comprises ten lane toll plazas with latest toll management system, along with control rooms that will help locate the accident site and provide required emergency services within minimum response time.
