The North Yorkshire County Council in the UK has awarded a £250m contract to Ringway Infrastructure Services to carry out highway maintenance over the next ten years.

The contract, worth £25m a year, includes highway maintenance and improvement, gully emptying, grass cutting, bridge repairs and street lighting, as well as maintenance of the council’s vehicle fleet.

The maintenance work will be carried out in the city of York and the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

Ringway will take over from Balfour Beatty WorkPlace, which has held the contract since 2002.

The ten-year contract will start on 1 April 2012.
