The Saudi Arabian Government has allocated SAR1.3bn ($346m) to implement several highway projects in Makkah within the next year.

The grants will be used to update the 14km on the second and third ring roads, of which 8km each have been completed, according to the government.

One project is also being built exclusively for trucks, linking South Ring Jeddah road with Makkah-Madina road.

The project is expected to ease congestion on Haramain Road and Jeddah-Makkah Road.

The Commission for the Development of Makkah and the Holy Sites will implement 146 road projects in the next six years.
