Global traffic safety solutions supplier Sensys Traffic has secured its first order for traffic safety systems from a customer in Qatar.

The Middle East is now said to be the company’s second largest market and the latest order from Qatar means it currently has customers in eight of the region’s 14 countries.

Sensys CEO Johan Frilund said: "The order represents a breakthrough in Qatar and is proof that our solutions are competitive.

"Our strategy of providing existing and new customers with tailored solutions, based on the flexibility of our leading technology and a strong project implementation organisation, is a key success factor."

According to the company, the total available market has a combined population of approximately 350 million.

Major investments to develop infrastructure and safety are currently underway to improve the situation in these countries, which have high road fatality rates.

Sensys decided to establish a local presence in the Middle East this year, in order to take advantage of the healthy market growth that the region has to offer, as well as meet demand from new and existing customers.

The company’s latest contract follows the award of a SKr12m ($1.5m) order in November 2014 from a customer in the Middle East for speed monitoring systems.

Sensys Traffic supplies system solutions for traffic safety within the ATC (automatic traffic safety control) area and develops, markets and sells products that mainly monitor and register speed limit violations and red-light enforcement.
