Sweden-based Skanska has divested its interest in Chile’s Autopistas de Antofagasta private-public partnership (PPP) highway for approximately SKr400m ($49.3m).

Chilean private corporation Inversiones Infraestructura has acquired the stake of the toll road from Skanska.

"The Antofagasta highway has opened up the country’s mining region to greater commercialisation."

The company is owned by the Chilean public investment funds denominated Fondo de Inversión Público Penta Las Américas Infraestructura Dos and Fondo de Inversión Público Penta Las Américas Infraestructura Tres, while managed by Chilean investment fund manager Penta Las Americas Administradora de Fondos de Inversión.

Slated to run through the Chilean mining district, the Antofagasta highway has opened up the country’s mining region to greater commercialisation with improved and safer route between mines and ports.

Skanska received the contract to design, construct, operate and maintain the toll road in 2010, while it was opened to traffic in December 2012.

With this divestment, Skanska will no longer have any operations in Latin America.
