Germany-based Strabag International will build the Rwf32bn ($52m) Kigali-Gatuna highway in Rwanda.

The 77.8km highway includes reconstruction of 115 concrete culverts, the construction of 73 arched metal duct drainage systems and improvement works for existing bridges as well as construction of a roundabout near Kigali.

The highway will link Burundi and Rwanda, DR Congo, to Uganda as well as link the Mombasa Port through Kenya.

The highway is part of a 600km road network planned to be constructed in seven years and will be funded by the European Union (EU).

The company will begin construction on the project in May next year.
