US-based technology company TrueMotion has introduced Mojo, a new app that automatically keeps track of users' road trips and shows the amount of time they have driven without any distraction.

The application launch is a part of the company's overall mission to make the roads safer for all, and also coincides with April, which is known as Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

TrueMotion co-founder and CEO Scott Griffith said: "Resisting the temptation to interact with our phone while behind the wheel is hard. According to surveys and our own research, many of us are fighting a losing battle and as a result distracted driving has spiked to alarming levels.

"Through extensive research and testing we've shown that it's possible to lower distraction levels using the very technology that is causing the problem.

“Mojo, which was developed based on our research and testing, is designed to make it easy, fun and rewarding to stop picking up our phone when we're behind the wheel."

When the user downloads this application on their smartphone, it automatically tracks each trip in the background, and calculates the frequency of the distraction on the basis of calls received by the user, as well as texting during commuting from one place to another.

Based on phone usage while driving, the application assigns points to the user.

The points score could go up or come down after each trip based on how much or how little the user was distracted by their phone.
