European self-driving car company Vedecom Tech is to help safeguard its autonomous vehicles from cyber attacks after signing an agreement with Karamba Security.

Karamba Security is a provider of autonomous cybersecurity solutions for connected and autonomous vehicles.

Vedecom Tech chief executive officer and president Frederic Mathis said: “As we bring our first self-driving cars into production, we planned for cybersecurity technology to be part of the car’s design.

“We evaluated the market extensively, and after serious consideration, concluded that Karamba Security’s technology is the best way to prevent, not just detect, cyber threats and keep passengers and cars safe.”

Slated to be launched this year and in 2018, Vedecom Tech’s fully autonomous, self-driving vehicles (SAE Level 5) will be rolled-out for commercial use by municipalities in France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and the Netherlands.

"Karamba Security’s Carwall and Autonomous Security software that will help protect the cars’ electronic control units (ECUs) against risks of hacking."

The company will equip the new vehicles with Karamba Security’s Carwall and Autonomous Security software that will help protect the cars’ electronic control units (ECUs) against risks of hacking.

Vedecom Tech is using YoGoKo's advanced communications solutions for its connected and cooperative autonomous vehicle.

YoGoKo and Karamba will collaborate to strengthen the externally connected ECUs and secure the autonomous vehicles’ advanced, connected communications systems against cyber attacks.

The software security blocks malware and enforces authentication to provide safe and secure self-driving capabilities, along with enforcing authorisation policies that ensure data privacy.
