The NDS (National Highway Company) of Slovakia has signed a €137.7m contract with Váhostav to construct the D1 motorway stretch between Dubná Skala and Turany in Žilina in Slovakia’s north west.

Váhostav offered lowest bid to build a 16km section of the D1 highway and it will cost €205m less if it had been carried out in public private partnership (PPP).

The project expected to commence by next week and will take three years to complete.

The D1 highway is expected to ease traffic congestion near Martin.

Previously, Váhostav had signed a €60m contract to build the section between Jánovce and Jablonov in the D1 highway project, according to Sme daily.
