The Jakarta Public Works Agency has opened the tender for the construction of a new Transjakarta bus corridor connecting Ciledug in Tangerang with Blok M in South Jakarta, Indonesia.

The elevated Corridor 13 will be built with an investment capital of IDR2.5 trillion ($212.1m) and will pass along Jl. Pierre Tendean in South Jakarta.

"We have prioritised the construction from Ciledug to Tendean due to the heavy traffic."

Jakarta Public Works Agency deputy head Agus Priyono said: "The elevated road would not be built exclusively for Transjakarta buses. For the sake of expanding the road network in Jakarta, the road will also be open to private vehicles.

"The bus lane will be placed in the middle. It will also be possible to apply the electronic road pricing system and it will carry mixed traffic. We have prioritised the construction from Ciledug to Tendean due to the heavy traffic."

The new bus corridor will be the second Transjakarta route to link Jakarta with its surrounding areas.

The agency is also planning to open tenders for three further corridors: Corridor 15 connecting the University of Indonesia campus in Depok with Manggarai in South Jakarta; Corridor 14 between Tendean in South Jakarta and Kalimalang in East Jakarta and Corridor 11, which connects Kampung Melayu with Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta.

If approved, the tenders will be opened at the end of this year.
