Nigeria’s Lagos State Government has agreed to extend the reconstruction work of the International Airport Road to Ladipo International Market axis along Oshodi Apapa Expressway.

The new initiative was announced by the Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during an inspection of ongoing projects.

Ambode stated that the reconstruction will complement the airport road reconstruction in line with the redevelopment of the entire Oshodi axis.

He said: “There is no point doing the Airport Road if we don’t extend that contract to where I am standing here and so I want to do it from Oshodi to Guardian Newspapers axis; I want to rehabilitate the road and turn it to a modern road.”

The government has also announced the construction of a pedestrian bridge at Toyota Bus Stop.

The contractor is working on building the airport road and will commence work on the pedestrian bridge next week.

“Ambode stated that the reconstruction will complement the airport road reconstruction in line with the redevelopment of the entire Oshodi axis.”

The road project is expected to be completed by May this year.

Governor Ambode appealed to traders with their wares to vacate the road to enable the timely completion of construction work.

The governor also inspected the ongoing construction of the Oshodi Transport Interchange.

Earlier this month, the Lagos Government released N5.563bn ($20m) to contractors for the construction of the 181 roads.

These roads are spread across the 20 local governments (LGs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the Nigerian state.

The roads will be built in phases. Under the first phase, one road each in the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs will be constructed.
