Dutch company NXP Semiconductors and Cohda Wireless are set to deploy a connected vehicle environment through the Smart Columbus Experience Center’s electric vehicle test drive area to enable drivers to experience the future technology in person.

NXP will provide key technologies for smart and safe mobility to the centre, which was launched last month by the city of Columbus, Ohio, US.

The Smart Columbus Experience Center allows visitors to witness new mobility options such as connected, autonomous, shared and electric vehicles.

NXP US Government Affairs head Peter Esser said: “We’re proud to be part of the city of Columbus Experience Center.

“NXP will also provide its Smart Card IC technology, which enhances transportation for citizens by supporting secure and convenient public transportation ticketing and payment systems.”

“Smart mobility starts with education and a desire to shape a new future. The new Smart Columbus Experience Center brings technology and education together and is unique to the smart mobility projects we are implementing around the world.”

As part of its commitment towards the Smart Columbus Experience Center, NXP will present its RoadLINK V2X technology, which allows cars to communicate with each other, as well as intelligent traffic infrastructures.

NXP will also provide its Smart Card IC technology, which enhances transportation for citizens by supporting secure and convenient public transportation ticketing and payment systems.

It will also provide NXP Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions designed to promote public safety and convenience.

Additionally, NXP has donated an electric motorcycle with an accompanying drone that alerts the driver to dangers or delays ahead.
