Roads and Maritime Services in Australia is set to start pedestrian safety improvement works at the intersection of Wilfred Barrett Drive and Bungary Road at Noraville.

As part of this programme, the New South Wales (NSW) Government agency will install concrete pedestrian refuge on Wilfred Barrett Drive, south of Bungary Road.

Additionally, connecting footpaths will be in place to the refuge and bus shelter on the western side and between the cycle path and pedestrian refuge on the eastern side.

Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said: “The NSW Government allocated $500,000 for pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements at the Wilfred Barrett Drive and Bungary Road intersection.

“Feedback from the community and stakeholders was considered in the final design of the project, which is now ready to go ahead.”

The spokesperson further added that a dedicated northbound lane will be added on Wilfred Barrett Drive in a bid to assist motorists turning right out of Bungary Road and replacing and improving drainage pits.

Permanent signage, which will be installed at Denison Street, will advise motorists to turn right at the Denison Street intersection if they are travelling to Norah Head.

The spokesperson added: “Also, in response to community feedback and further investigations, a dedicated left turn lane for vehicles turning into Bungary Road is no longer included in the project.”

Scheduled to begin this month, works are expected to be completed in March next year.
