UK-based sustainable drainage and water management solutions manufacturer Polypipe has introduced its latest gully chute product Ridgichute for use in highway applications.

Produced using lightweight polypropylene, the Ridgichute gully chutes have been designed to fit well with Highways Authority Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS)-approved Ridgidrain, the UK’s surface water drainage piping system for use on highways projects.

Polypipe product manager Sean Norris said: “The introduction of the Ridgichute is a great addition to our comprehensive range of surface water drainage solutions for road projects.

“The main benefit of a sumpless design is to eliminate the need for maintenance and cleaning activities on high-risk carriageways. This also removes the need for the carriageway to be closed, allowing traffic to remain free-flowing.

“Captured water, silt and sediment are carried down the Ridgidrain system into a chamber to the side of the carriageway that helps make maintenance activities safer.”

“Unlike a traditional gully, any sediment will be carried down the piping system and collected by, for example, a Ridgistorm Separate chamber located off the carriageway, for safer maintenance activities to commence.”

The UK is set to receive heavier rainfall and it is vital that stormwater does not accumulate on either new or existing road networks as it can cause traffic congestion and road blockages, Polypipe noted.

Using Ridgichute, captured water and sediment from high-risk carriageways can be allowed to pass directly into a Ridgidrain drainage system, helping to avoid surface flooding.

The product features a sumpless design, which decreases risk for roadside workers carrying out gully maintenance by preventing blockages caused by silt accumulation.

Captured water, silt and sediment are carried down the Ridgidrain system into a chamber to the side of the carriageway that helps make maintenance activities safer.

Ridgichute is available in 600mm×600mm, 900mm×900mm and 1,200mm×675mm sizes, each with the choice of either a 225mm or 300mm outlet.

Polypipe designs, develops and manufactures a range of plastic piping products in the UK, with more than 20,000 product lines available.
