UK’s Ringway Jacobs has secured a £600m highways contract to manage Cheshire East Council’s services for up to 15 years.

The company has been offering highways services to Cheshire East Council since 2011 under the previous contract.

Ringway Jacobs managing director Mike O’Neill said: “We are delighted to be chosen to continue as Cheshire East Council’s partner for highways services.

“We look forward to building on our current relationship to deliver the very best outcomes for the residents and businesses in Cheshire East.”

Under the new contract, Ringway Jacobs will manage, maintain and improve the council’s highways services across the borough.

“This new contract with Ringway Jacobs will better meet the needs of our residents and road users, whether it is gritting in the winter months or road repairs and resurfacing work.”

The contract also includes management of 1,677 miles of roads, as well as 1,100 miles of footways and 372 miles of cycleways, along with assets valued at £5bn, including bridges, street lighting, drainage, and signage.

In order to ensure quality throughout the life of the contract, the council will leverage a series of key performance indicators (KPIs) supported by regular audit checks in order to continually monitor and manage the contractor’s performance.

Cheshire East Council environment deputy cabinet member councillor Glen Williams said: “This new contract with Ringway Jacobs will better meet the needs of our residents and road users, whether it is gritting in the winter months or road repairs and resurfacing work during the better weather.

“We have an extensive urban and rural road network and the demands on our service are understandably severe at times. I am confident that this new contract will ensure we continue to deliver the highest possible standard of service throughout Cheshire East and deliver value for money for our residents and businesses.”

The new highways contract will become effective from October.
