Gloucestershire County Council in the UK has awarded Ringway Infrastructure Services a £245m contract for road maintenance of the county’s highways.

Starting 1 April, Ringway will take over work as Gloucestershire County Council’s highway maintenance contractor and replace existing contractor Amey.

Gloucestershire noted that the company was selected based on its previous successful services provided for Worcestershire and Wiltshire councils, as well as Highways England in the south-west.

Gloucestershire County Council highways cabinet member Cllr Vernon Smith said: “Throughout the process, Ringway impressed on all fronts and I’m confident they will do a great job keeping our roads and verges maintained.

“We are also 100% committed to supporting the county’s wider targets for social, economic and environmental sustainability and are delighted to partner with the council.”

“They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivering services in our region and I look forward to working with them to continue our investment in really improving Gloucestershire’s roads.”

The contract is initially valid for a period of seven years, with an option to extend year-on-year for four years up to 2030.

Ringway will take on the responsibility of carrying out maintenance work for the county’s 3,300 miles of highways.

The contract includes pothole repairing, gully cleaning, winter gritting and snow clearing, verge and grass cutting, as well as surface dressing.

Ringway managing director Mike Notman said: “Developing the right solution for the people of Gloucestershire was a real team effort. We are really looking forward to working collaboratively with the council, local suppliers and the community to improve the highway network.

“We are also 100% committed to supporting the county’s wider targets for social, economic and environmental sustainability and are delighted to partner with the council to deliver these over the term of the contract.”
