Real-Time Innovations (RTI) has unveiled its Connext 6 connectivity software to speed up the development and deployment of highly autonomous systems.

Part of RTI’s Connext suite of products, Connext 6 is designed to provide autonomous vehicle developers with the advanced technology required while addressing the data distribution challenges of Level 4 and Level 5 autonomy.

Connext 6 provides a standards-based framework to assist in autonomous vehicle development, from the research to the production stage.

The platform is expected to be available in the market from the first quarter of next year.

RTI products and markets vice-president David Barnett said: “At RTI we have experienced rapid growth in the autonomous vehicle market. All major autonomous vehicle platform standards now specify the DDS standard, including AUTOSAR Adaptive and ROS2.

“We have taken this insight and coupled it with the high-performance capabilities of our data-centric technology.”

“This gives us deep insight into the requirements of highly autonomous systems.

“We have taken this insight and coupled it with the high-performance capabilities of our data-centric technology and developed Connext 6, the only connectivity framework designed for the complexities of Level 4 and Level 5 Autonomy.”

By using Connext 6, autonomous system makers can address key technical challenges such as the effective distribution of high bandwidth sensor data to autonomous system applications, including for sensing, perception, visualisation, mapping and display.

The software mitigates the challenge of assimilating large volumes of streaming data from LiDAR, high-definition cameras and radar sensors by distributing it to multiple destinations and simultaneously evaluating and responding to it in real-time.

Connext 6’s data-centric interoperable framework is designed to support all the operating systems and processor models commonly used by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their suppliers.

In addition, Connext 6 enables developers to eliminate the need for custom networking code and accompanying certification systems.
