The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded two civil contracts with a combined value of S$1.16bn ($864m) to build two sections of the North-South Corridor (NSC).

The NSC project involves the construction of tunnel and commuter facilities, including pedestrian overhead bridges, bus stops, sheltered walkways and cycling paths.

South Korean company Samsung C&T has received one of the contracts to build the section between Toa Payoh Rise and Marymount Lane.

The S$602.6m ($449m) contract requires Samsung C&T to design and construct a 1.37km-long section of the tunnel with one exit ramp.

“Scheduled to be completed in 2026, the 21.5km-long NSC will be an integrated transport corridor in Singapore featuring bus lanes and at-grade cycling routes.”

Samsung C&T has already completed several major projects in Singapore, including a 1.75km stretch of the Marina Coastal Expressway. Recently, it also secured the first NSC civil contract for the NSC tunnel between Novena Rise and Toa Payoh Rise.

A joint venture (JV) between Leighton Contractors Asia Singapore branch and Yongnam Engineering & Construction was awarded the second NSC civil contract.

The S$553.8m ($412.6m) contract includes the construction of a tunnel between Kampong Java Road and Suffolk Walk.

The Leighton-Yongnam JV will build a 0.64km section of tunnel along with an entry ramp and an exit ramp. Commuter facilities and the widening of Rochor Canal will also be provided.

Construction works of both contracts are expected to start by the end of this year.

Scheduled to be completed in 2026, the 21.5km-long NSC will be an integrated transport corridor in Singapore featuring bus lanes and at-grade cycling routes.
