The SIS consortium has put into service the second section of the Pedemontana-Veneta highway in Italy with the opening the Malo-Valdastico section.

Following the opening of the second section, 12km of the main axis has been put into operation so far.

Malo-Valdastico offers continuity to the section, which opened in 2019 between Breganze and the interconnection with the A31.

Superstrada Pedemontana Veneta, which is the concession company, is responsible for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the toll highway for 39 years from the completion date.

In the SIS consortium, Fininc has a 51% stake while Sacyr owns 49%.

The Pedemontana-Veneta Highway is considered to a key road infrastructure under construction in the country.

It is also considered to be an important project in Sacyr’s backlog, with an investment of 2.6bn.

The project involves the construction of 162km, out of which 94km correspond to the main road that will link 34 municipalities and the industrial area of Vicenza and Treviso.

Approximately 68km will correspond to secondary roads. This segment will feature two tunnels, the 6km Malo Tunnel and 1.5km S Urbano Tunnel, as well as eight viaducts.

According to Sacyr, progress on the planned investment is estimated at 57%.

A part of the European TEN-T, this highway is considered to be a strategic asset of national importance given that it is located between the existing A4 and A27 highways, crosses the Veneto Region, and passes through Vicenza and Treviso provinces.

The daily traffic estimated for the entire highway is 27,000 vehicles, out of which 20% is expected to be heavy traffic.

Funding for the highway development was made through the largest bond issue in Europe of a greenfield project worth 1.571bn.

In April, a consortium led by Sacyr companies rehabilitated the Pirámides-Tulancingo-Pachuca highway in Mexico.

Sacyr currently has 46 assets distributed across ten countries, including Spain, Portugal, Chile, Colombia, Italy. These assets include 3,600km of highways.
