A $13m project has concluded to replace the State Route 37B bridge (Parker Avenue) over the Grasse River in the village of Massena, St Lawrence County in New York, US.

After two years of work beginning in 2016, the reconstructed Parker Avenue bridge is due to reopen to traffic this week.

The bridge is a two-lane road with a sturdy structure and features a new roundabout on Center Street to facilitate the movement of traffic, as well as green-space to enhance the community gateway.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: “New York’s commitment to hardening infrastructure in the North Country is unwavering and this new bridge is the latest example of our efforts to strengthen and connect communities.

“This new bridge will help provide a provide a pathway not only for transportation but for future economic growth in the north country.”

“The completion of this project is just one of many investments being made throughout the region to help develop and grow the economy, create new jobs, and build a better New York today for the generation of tomorrow.”

Work on the State Route 37B bridge project started around the Main and Maple Street intersection. It crossed the Grasse River and finished near the Parker Avenue and East Orvis Street intersection.

In addition to reconstructing highway approaches, the bridge provides enhanced drainage and has added a pedestrian walkway.

The completion of this project builds on other recent enhancements in Massena, including a $1.57m project to pave 5.5 centerline miles from Route 56 to Route 131 and a $226,000 project to pave 1.4 centreline miles on Andrews Street (Route 970C).
