Dutch company TomTom has introduced a new satellite navigation (sat nav) system for motorists called TomTom GO Basic.

The new system features advanced hardware and it can update over Wi-Fi. It also comes with a lifetime maps and traffic update services, as well as includes a three-month trial of TomTom Speed Cameras.

With an in-built Wi-Fi system, the new sat nav eliminates the requirement to connect to a computer to receive the latest maps and software updates.

Furthermore, it is capable of reading aloud the smartphone notifications such as text messages when connected to the user’s phone.

TomTom Consumer managing director Mike Schoofs said: “With the new TomTom GO Basic, we’re democratising powerful TomTom navigation for drivers everywhere.

“With the new TomTom GO Basic, we’re democratising powerful TomTom navigation for drivers everywhere.”

“We’ve managed to bring the best of our technologies – from our famous traffic service to smartphone connectivity and over-the-air Wi-Fi updates – all packed in to a dedicated navigation device that’s our most affordable one yet.”

Due to smart learning capacity, the TomTom GO Basic can remember the user’s driving habits and can predict the destinations when they are saved in My Places.

The accuracy of destination predictions is said to improve with time as the motorist drives more with the device.

The user can also use the TomTom MyDrive to plan their trips before their journey, check live traffic and create routes.

In addition to TomTom GO Basic, the company introduced another sat nav system called TomTom Camper.

TomTom Camper is designed for explorers and will provide them with the option of selecting the best route for their caravan.
