US-based TransCore has secured a contract from the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) for the design, development, and maintenance of an advanced toll collection system for its international bridge.

The bridge connects Wellesley Island, New York, in the US to Hill Island, Ontario, in Canada.

Under the contract, TransCore will replace TIBA’s 26-year-old toll collection system with its Infinity Digital Lane System.

Infinity’s fully integrated digital video audit system provides agencies with a real-time user-friendly tool to facilitate end-to-end revenue traceability and auditability.

The system will be integrated with the New York State Thruway Authority’s (NYSTA) Customer Service Center operations.

“TransCore will install its Encompass 6 multi-protocol readers to process E-ZPass transactions and issue eGo Plus sticker tags to support TIBA’s commuter discount fare programme.”

It also provides the latest electronic toll collection functionality and an opportunity for TIBA to benefit from future system enhancements.

TIBA executive director Robert Horr said: “The opening of the Thousand Islands Bridge 80 years ago marked a new era of connectivity and commerce between our two nations.

“We fully expect this new toll collection system to enable even greater international convenience and mobility, and support long-term expected growth in the region.”

The system also enables seamless interoperability for local residents and those who travel between the US and Canada.

TransCore will install its Encompass 6 multi-protocol readers to process E-ZPass transactions and issue eGo Plus sticker tags to support TIBA’s commuter discount fare programme.

TransCore vice-president Sean Persaud said: “TransCore fully recognises the importance this new toll collection system will have on international mobility and trade.

“We are honoured to partner with TIBA and share their vision for a tolling solution that can continually evolve to meet the needs of a changing international transportation landscape.”

TransCore has agreed to maintain the new system in partnership with TIBA staff.
