Rent A Car, a short-term proximity rental service in France, has partnered with US-based transportation technology company Verra Mobility to introduce electronic toll payments for its customers.

With a total of 90, France has the highest number of toll roads in the continent. Passengers have the option to pay with cash, credit card or electronic transponder.

To make cash or card payments, rental cars have to wait in toll lanes. With the new partnership, Rent A Car customers can now make electronic toll payments to accelerate the travel experience.

To do so, rental car customers have to use the separate electronic Liber-T lanes.

Verra Mobility CEO and president David Roberts said: “Our toll management technology and services will support Rent A Car by offering a revolutionary product in Europe and provide a seamless and efficient solution to their renters.

“We are excited about our partnership with Rent A Car as a critical next step in our European expansion strategy.”

This September, Verra Mobility teamed up with motorway operator APRR to provide toll management services in France. Under the partnership, Verra Mobility will develop products for fleets, initially for rental cars.

Rent A Car CEO Anne-Catherine Péchinot stated: “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re continually looking to provide better service and convenience.

“We are pleased to be able to test the effectiveness of Verra Mobility’s embedded tolling solutions in our vehicles, with the prospect of offering this new option to our customers soon in order to improve their experience.”
