The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has approved plans to replace the superstructure and concrete decks on 14 overpass bridges along Interstate 93 in Medford, Middlesex County, US.

The Interstate 93 highway has its entire route located within New England’s six states; the other two being I-89 and I-91.

The project will be called Fast 14, and involves replacing the deteriorating bridge decks with pre-constructed bridge decks.

The project is expected to cost about $75m in 2011.

The state transportation board appointed JF White Contracting Company to implement an $84m contract, which will also have $7m in incentives for completing work on time.

The work is expected to be complete by 5 September 2011.
