Fatalities from road accidents in UAE reduced by 14.5 % to 826 in 2010, compared to 966 in 2009, according to new data from the traffic coordination department at the interior ministry.

Motorists in the seven emirates, however, committed more than 6.7 million traffic offences in 2010, which is an increase by 7.5 % when compared to approximately 6.3 million in 2009.

Traffic offences rose in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah as well as Fujeirah, which recorded the largest increase with offences going up by 39.9% to 153,790 from 109,876 in 2009.

Traffic offences declined in Dubai and Ajman as well as Umm Al Quwain, which recorded the largest decline of about 14.4% to 15,690 in 2010.
