AFK Sistema’s subsidiary Sitronics has won a contract to develop and upgrade Moscow’s intelligent transportation system (ITS) in a bid to reduce traffic problems in the region.

The project involves building a central road traffic management centre and upgrading the traffic light systems.

Russia has allocated $220m this year for the project, and Sitronics will receive that money at the end of the year, after delivering the project.

Under the deal, Sitronics would modernise the existing traffic light management system, called as Start, through the purchase of new traffic lights, sensors, video monitoring systems and satellite navigation equipment.

Another AFK Sistema unit, Navigation Information Systems Glonass, has prepared the feasibility study for the traffic management centre and is also the operator of the Glonass satellite tracking network, which is essential to this project, according to themoscowtimes.com.
