ERTICO-ITS, Europe and its partners will test a novel traffic technology for high-tech communication between vehicles, and between vehicles and existing technical traffic systems.

The test will try innovative new applications and services for two road traffic projects: ‘Co-operative Vehicle Infrastructure Systems’ (CVIS) and ‘Co-operative Systems for Road Safety’ (SAFESPOT).

CVIS designs, develops and tests a platform that allows Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications.

SAFESPOT has developed interfaces for wireless connection compliant and precise relative position to enable critical safety-related applications, Traffic Technology Today stated.

These technologies will deliver real-time traffic and environment information to the drivers leading to fewer accidents, congestion delays and costs. they will also reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The projects are sponsored by European Union and coordinated by ERICTO-ITS and Centro Ricerche FIAT of Italy.
