The Iowa Transportation Commission is planning to spend $2.1bn between 2010-2014 to maintain and rebuild some of the US state’s key highways.

The projects include widening a $120m project to widen Interstate 35 to six lanes from four and completing the upgrade of the US30 bypass. In addition, the four lane US61 around Fort Madison will also be in focus, thehawkeye.com reports.

Details of the Interstate programme will be confirmed in the June 2009.
