Yorkshire is planning to install a new type of speed camera that calculates the vehicle’s average speed over a distance of up to six miles.

The speed cameras that work in pairs are currently used on motorways during road works.

It is expected that these new technology-based cameras will be replacing Gatso and Truvelo cameras, which measure speed over only a short distance.

It also delivers environmental and safety gains, particularly in residential areas.

The average speed cameras are superior to standing cameras as motorists cannot speed up between cameras.
