US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood proposed an immediate 18-month highway reauthorisation for replenishing the Highway Trust Fund (HTF).

The states could lose the expected transportation funds if this move about refilling HTF is not implemented.

Ray LaHood said that the department was planning to enact critical reforms in order to make better investment decisions with cost-benefit analysis focusing on more investments in metropolitan areas and promote the concept of livability to more closely link home and work.

“The first step is making sure that the Highway Trust Fund is solvent and the next step is to address transportation priorities over the long term,” he said.
