The use of an electronic pay-as-you-go system to speed up Dubai’s road network and deliver cost savings for public service users has been fully approved by the government.

The implementation of a Unified Electronic Fare Card called “NOL CARD”, proposed by the Road and Transport Authority, will be brought out to coincide with the start of Dubai Metro’s passenger service.

The users of public buses, water buses, paid parking zones and the Dubai metro will be offered streamlined payment facilities.

The new system will divide Dubai into five mobility zones and offer Metro park-and-ride facilities free of charge to public transport users while fees will remain for non-public transport users.

The card has been designed for added protection against counterfeiting.
